History of the Angel Fund:
The Angel Fund was established in the fall of 2010 by the Hibbing Chamber of Commerce group, Women’s Innovative Network (WIN). The WIN group hosted a Girl’s Night Out pajama party and money from this event was placed in a fund to provide financial assistance to local women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to help defer costs associated with treatment and survivorship. In the spring of 2011, several women in our community recognized the need to establish a structured organization to oversee the funds and create ongoing fund-raising projects to perpetuate the financial gifts. To this end we formed an Angel Fund Board of Directors, created Bylaws and established 501C (3) status under the umbrella of the Central Mesabi Medical Foundation (CMMF) to ensure credibility of the Fund. An important change in the fund occurred in 2011 when the fund expanded to include ALL individuals with ANY FORM of cancer - not just breast cancer.
