COOK, Minn. — Bring your appetite — and maybe leave the white shirt at home.
The Cook Lions Club and Angel Fund are teaming up for a Seafood Boil Fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cook VFW, bringing together good food, good fun and a great cause.
“We wanted to put together an event that’s fun, a little different and gives people a great reason to come together,” said Colette Huisenga, event organizer with the Cook Lions Club.
“The Lions are all about serving our communities, and partnering with Angel Fund gives us the opportunity to have a good time while supporting people right here in our region who are going through cancer treatment. We hope people come hungry and help us make it a great night!”
Proceeds from the event will benefit Angel Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to Northeast Minnesota residents undergoing cancer treatment. Angel Fund helps patients with expenses such as transportation, groceries, and other everyday needs that can become difficult to manage during treatment.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Cook Lions Club for partnering with us on this event,” said Carolyn Pohjonen, Angel Fund Board President. “There is something pretty special about one community organization reaching out to another and saying, ‘Let’s do something together to help our neighbors.’ And when that something involves snow crab legs and shrimp, it’s pretty hard to say no!”
In addition to the seafood boil, guests will have the opportunity to browse and bid on a variety of silent auction items, with proceeds also benefiting Angel Fund.
“Every ticket purchased and every auction bid ultimately helps us say ‘yes’ when a local cancer patient reaches out for assistance,” Pohjonen added. “That’s what makes evenings like this so meaningful.”

Each meal will include a hearty helping of:
- Snow crab legs
- Shrimp
- Sausage
- Corn on the cob
- Red potatoes
- Onions
- And dessert!
For those who would rather enjoy their seafood feast at home, takeout will also be available.
Whether attendees come for the crab legs, the silent auction, the camaraderie or the cause, the Cook Lions Club and Angel Fund hope the community will turn out for an evening that proves doing good can taste pretty good, too.
