Rock for an Angel 2026: A Sweeping Success on “Curlentine’s Day- the BIG 14!”

Love was definitely in the air — and on the ice — at this year’s 14th Annual Rock for an Angel funspiel, where curlers, supporters and volunteers gathered at the Hibbing Curling Club to celebrate “Curlentine’s Day – the BIG 14.”

When the final rocks were thrown and the brooms were set down, the one-day event held on Feb. 14 raised an incredible $48,500 to support local families facing cancer through the Angel Fund.

Teams from across the community swept into action for a day filled with friendly competition, laughter, raffles, and a shared commitment to helping neighbors in need.

From the first end to the final draw, the spirit of the event was clear: when a community comes together, great things happen.

“Rock for an Angel continues to be one of our most meaningful events each year,” said Angel Fund Board President Carolyn Pohjonen. “It’s a day where people come together not just to curl, but to honor loved ones we’ve lost, support those currently facing cancer, and celebrate survivors in our community. We are so grateful for the generosity, energy, and heart that everyone brings to this event.”

The success of Rock for an Angel would not be possible without the dedication of the Rock for an Angel Committee, the many volunteers who work behind the scenes, the generous sponsors and donors, and the teams who take to the ice each year.

The Angel Fund extends a heartfelt thank you to the Hibbing Curling Club for hosting, to the sponsors and businesses who donated raffle items and prizes, and to every participant who helped make the day such a success.

While the competition on the ice was spirited, the true win of the day was the community’s shared commitment to helping families across the Iron Range navigate the challenges of cancer.

Not only were funds raised that day, but awareness was spread and solidarity for those battling cancer was shared.

“The turnout, the enthusiasm, and the generosity we saw this year were truly inspiring,” said Alice Prtine, co-chair of the Rock for an Angel committee. “We’re so thankful to everyone who came out to curl, volunteer, sponsor, and support Angel Fund. Without them, we could not accomplish our mission.”

As the stones settle on another successful year, one thing is certain: Rock for an Angel continues to prove that when we come together with heart, generosity, and maybe a little sweeping power, we can make a real difference.

All proceeds from the event will go to Northeastern Minnesota residents facing cancer, directly impact the lives of local patients, helping provide access to treatment and essentials, and providing hope.

Plans are already in motion for next year’s event, so mark your calendar for Saturday, Feb. 13, 2027! To apply, donate or learn more about Angel Fund, see angelfundrange.org.
