Security State Bank of Hibbing employees made their own fun in October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Angel Fund. SSB had their own “Girls Night Out” event where some serious pumpkin decorating took place! Social media fans were asked to vote for their favorite pumpkin. Between Facebook comments and employee votes, Ashley Cannata was named the winner! Employees graciously donated $497 to the Angel Fund!

HHS Volleyball “Crushes Cancer”
Hibbing High School Volleyball held its “Crush Cancer” night on Tuesday, Oct. 12, against Marshall High School at the Lincoln School. During the event, the teams and attendees raised funds for area cancer patients while raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event resulted in a $223 donation to Angel Fund!
Local survivor pedals for funds and awareness
On Oct. 2 & 3, local breast cancer warrior Julie Lucas of Side Lake bicycled more than 128 miles over two days on the Mesabi Trail from Ely to Grand Rapids. She created and embarked on her inaugural “Ride Across the Range” to bring awareness to cancer and survivorship, to raise funds for area cancer patients and to simply prove that she could — and yes, of course, she did it! She also took followers on the journey by posting poignant video messages at various stops. Her efforts resulted in more than $2,800 for area cancer patients — and that’s way beyond phenomenal!
